Our

SERVICES

We pride ourselves on providing clients with outstanding eye care. A comprehensive, 40 minute eye examination with one of our experienced optometrists will involve a thorough investigation of ocular health and a precise vision assessment for an accurate spectacle prescription.

We provide NHS and private eye care, as well as a range of enhanced services.

  • Myopia (or shortsightedness) is becoming more prevalent in children - it is predicted that by 2050 around 50% of children will be shortsighted. This is a problem because higher myopia is a risk factor for serious eye conditions.

Myopia management describes a collection of treatments which have been proven to slow down the rate of progression of myopia in young people. These include specialist spectacle lenses, specialist soft contact lenses or rigid contact lenses (orthokeratology), all of which are available at Wilkinson Eyewear Studio.

  • Our speciailist Schoolvision clinic investigates how your child's eyes are performing when they read. The optometrist will carry out a number of tests to establish how the combined visual and neurological processing may be affecting your child's perception during concentrated tasks, such as reading or board work at school.

In the School Vision clinic, we assess how your child's eyes are focussing and working together when reading, and how this might affect their performance at school (reading speed and accuracy). Spectacles may be prescribed to help with this.

  • Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a huge step forward in the provision of comprehensive eye care.  Using hospital-grade technology, our optometrists are able to capture a 3 dimensional cross sectional scan and photograph in a few seconds. The results are available immediately.

OCT is non invasive and doesn't use any harmful radiation. It facilitates earlier detection of eye conditions such as glaucoma and macular degenerates, often before the condition becomes symptomatic.

This formidable technology is included in a private eye examination, or is available as an additional test to supplement your NHS eye examination for £40.

  • As well as fitting an extensive range of standard contact lenses, we also provide expert fitting of specialist contact lenses including orthokeratology.

Orthokeratology, or orthoK, is the nightly wear of specialist rigid contact lenses which flatten the front surface of your eye in such a way that once removed after a night’s sleep, the wearer’s vision is corrected for the waking hours. As described in the Myopia Management section, orthoK also slows myopic progression.

Orthokeratology is also recommended as a non-surgical alternative to laser eye surgery as the wearer is spectacle and contact lens free, without the surgical risks or post-surgery dry eye. It is currently only suitable for people with shortsightedness.

  • Colorimetry describes the evaluation and prescribing of specific tints which can be beneficial for people experiencing certain symptoms when reading.

These symptoms can include perceived movement or dancing of words and letters, or the appearance of patterns and lines in the gaps between words. These symptoms may be caused by a condition called visual stress.

For children who are learning to read, visual stress may affect confidence, enjoyment of reading and behaviour profoundly, with long term effects into adulthood - so while it is never too late to help adults with reading difficulties, the greatest benefits are achieved by addressing these issues during childhood.

  • Dry eye syndrome is a common condition that can have profound effects on our day to day life. It is a complex condition with many causes, and different underlying causes may require specific treatments and careful management.

Our dedicated clinic provides a thorough assessment of tear production and quality. We can then make tailored recommendations for the management which may involve hollistic treatment such as eye drops, lid hygiene or hot compress, or expertly administered treatments at the time of your appointment.
